Sad to say, I really only knew Providence from one of my favorite movies, Dumb and Dumber. But let me tell you when I visited, it was an amazing city filled with great culture, architecture, food and people. Providence was so much fun and I can’t wait to make a trip back!
Ogie's Trailer Park: This restaurant is amazingly designed, having the whole trailer park feel without any of the trashiness. The food, by Chef Adam Cordillo, was exactly what you'd expect as traditional American fare while creating an energetic atmosphere and vibe.
Food and drink sampled:
North: Run by Chef James Mark, who trained under David Chang, this tiny neighborhood spot is great for late night eats in an otherwise quiet area. It has VERY good Asian takes on American dishes and caters to an older crowd that isn't as rowdy as other places but definitely it's worth checking out.
Durk's BBQ: Chef Jake Rojas is an alumni of Robuchon and Essex House (Alaine Ducasse) and is creating some amazing Texas BBQ and drinks. This place has a big city feel, but it's in a small town - would highly recommend!
Stay downtown in the city, as it's near everything. Take a trip to Newport & Martha's Vineyard to explore. Make sure to visit Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design, too. For amazing authentic American Italian food (think Goodfellas) go to Federal Hill and hit Andino’s!
